Some facts about swaddling you should know about

Swaddling is one of those things that many new parents have heard about but are not too sure about how to go about doing it. Here are a few facts about swaddling you should know about.

Using special swaddling blankets for swaddling your baby is better than using a normal baby blanket. This is because the former is light weight, stretchable and comes with Velcro snaps that make the procedure simple and less time- consuming.

It is extremely important to use a material that is lightweight and breathable for swaddling your baby as you don’t want it to overheat. Make sure that your baby does not start perspiring or feels too warm.

Swaddling mimics the environment babies are used to when they were in their mother’s womb. It makes them feel safe, secure ad comfortable. Studies have suggested that swaddling helps babies sleep better and prevents SIDS or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Instances of SIDS are frighteningly increasing every year.

It is okay to keep one of your baby’s arms free when you swaddle it. It will make it feel comfortable. You will have to keep an eye on it if you do that though, as your baby may scratch its face with its finger nails.

Don’t swaddle your baby too tight. Over- restricting your baby’s movement so that it cannot move at all is not a good idea. Stop swaddling your baby if it feels discomfort or sleeps well without it.
